The single sided single layer DVDs are known as DVD-5, while the DVD-9 are known as single sided, dual layer. The DVD-10 are the double sided, single layer DVDs, and double sided, dual layer on one side are known as DVD-14 and lastly the double sided, dual layer on both sides are recognized as DVD-18. DVDs are known to make use of laser diode light of 650 nm against the 780 nm light used in a CD. Initially HP was known to have developed the version of recordable DVD media to support the aspect of storing data for back up and transporting. In fact the recordable DVD are known to be utilized for audio and video recording by consumers and the 3 following formats that were developed were known as DVD-R/RW (minus/dash), DVD+R/RW (plus), DVD-RAM.
